Selection and Application Points for Chemical-Resistant FRP Grating

The chemical resistance of FRP grating is mainly determined by the resin system, not merely by the glass fiber content. Common resin types include isophthalic unsaturated polyester, vinyl ester and bisphenol A polyester, whose resistance ranges to acids, alkalis, salts and organic solvents differ significantly. For example, isophthalic polyester is suitable for medium-concentration inorganic acid and salt environments, while vinyl ester resin offers better resistance to strong acids, strong alkalis and some oxidizing media. During selection, the actual type, concentration and temperature of the contacting medium and whether exposure alternates should be provided to the manufacturer as operating parameters, avoiding ordering based only on a single "corrosion-resistant" label.

In structural design, the thickness, grating spacing and load-bearing direction of the grating must match the platform load and span. Common thicknesses of 38 mm, 30 mm and 25 mm correspond to different load-bearing grades. After cutting and hole opening, the cut edges must be sealed with resin of the same system; otherwise exposed fibers will become the starting point of corrosion. The long-term service temperature is generally recommended not to exceed the resin's heat deflection temperature minus a safety margin. Where necessary, a resin formulation with higher temperature resistance may be selected.

• Typical applications: operating platforms, walkways and trench covers in wet or corrosive-medium contact areas such as electroplating, pickling, chemical storage tank areas, wastewater treatment, pharmaceutical workshops and offshore platforms.
• Customization options: length, width, hole positions and color can be customized according to drawings, with combinations of different resin systems, anti-slip gritted surfaces, flame retardant grades and load-bearing grades.
• Quality reference: pay attention to resin content, Barcol hardness, flexural strength, flame retardant testing (such as ASTM E84) and load deflection test reports; where necessary, request third-party test data.
• Purchasing advice: clarify the medium list and temperature range, request cases or samples under the same operating conditions for immersion verification, and confirm the edge sealing process and packaging and transport methods.
